Job Description:

Job Purpose

This ELCA Global Mission position directs the implementation of a new programmatic area that develops diversity and intercultural competencies for leaders identified by congregational and synodical partners. This position ensures the translation of existing educational content into curriculum and online learning platforms and drives the overall development of new Mission Formation materials.

Job Responsibilities

1. Develop curricula and online educational modules that build accompaniment competencies and practices.

2. Leads implementation of inter- and intra- unit collaborative efforts to build and strengthen diversity and intercultural competencies.

3. Evaluate effectiveness of education efforts to increase diversity and intercultural competencies in light of accompaniment values and practices. Providing reporting on relevant objectives for the CWO Operational Plan.

4. Provides advice, assistance, and support in all aspects of the work of the Mission Formation Team and represents the Team and the Global Mission Unit in settings relating to education and interpretation.

Travel.

Extensive domestic travel required. Intervals between trips will vary and travel intensity will vary throughout the year.

Physical Effort.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. Experience and Skills:

  1. 3- 5 years experience developing curriculum & educational resources
  2. Desire to work within a church system and a commitment to the ELCA vision, mission, and values. An understanding of ELCA ecology is strongly preferred.
  3. 3-5 years experience in building online educational platforms.
  4. Ability to express in daily decision-making the methodology of the ELCA’s Global Mission unit (accompaniment); knowledge of/experience with global or local mission contexts.
  5. Ability to work well in a team and utilize skills in listening, negotiation, persuasion, problem-solving and consensus-building to facilitate appropriate and high-quality work. Ability to work in an environment that values diversity.

Required certifications or licenses:

Graduate degree in education, theology, social sciences or related field preferred.
