Job Description:

Application due February 15, 2018 for service beginning August 14, 2018.

A one-year, international service-learning and faith-formation opportunity in churches and social service ministries for young adults, ages 21-29.

Young adults serve alongside Lutheran companion church bodies and organizations in one of eleven country programs around the world, being shaped by the witness of our global neighbors in a cross-cultural journey of faith. For 2018, country programs are projected to be: Argentina & Uruguay, Australia, Central Europe, Cambodia, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom. Areas of service include, but are not limited to, health and development, congregational ministry, human rights, education, homelessness, addiction recovery, women’s issues and children and youth. All site placements provide opportunities for young adults to confront issues of wealth and poverty; racial privilege; economic disparity and globalization, all through the lens of faith.

Applicants must first be accepted into the Young Adults in Global Mission program (YAGM) - specific country assignments are made at the mandatory Discernment-Interview-Placement (DIP) event in April (April 12-15, 2018). At that event, individual preferences will be considered, but final placement is based on many factors.

Terms and Conditions

Applicants must be ages 21-29 on or before February 15, 2018. Married applicants must each fill out an application and be married on or before February 15, 2018. The YAGM program provides roundtrip travel to and from the country of service, full room and board, transportation to and from in-country retreats, basic international travelers' health insurance, and a modest, monthly stipend meant to allow volunteers to live at an economic level similar to that of their local community. Student loans are often deferrable, as long as they are federally guaranteed and not through a private loan company. Global Mission provides support in the loan deferment process.

Please note that there is a two-part application. Complete part one of the application on-line by clicking the "Apply Now" button. Part two of the application will be emailed to candidates within days on completing part one.
