Shared Personnel Placement


  • Managua, Nicaragua

Assignment Includes:

This position is a Shared Personnel Placement with the South Dakota Synod and ELCA Global Mission. Its purpose is to facilitate communication and relationships between the South Dakota Synod and Nicaraguan Lutheran Church of Faith and Hope (ILFE) and to be a constant presence of the Companion Synod to accompany the church in mission and ministry. These duties are lived out through:

  • Coordination of arrangements for visiting delegation to ILFE.
  • Participation in one of ILFE’s national ministry teams in line with the skills and gifts the candidate bring and the ILFE’s needs.
  • Sharing updates on ministry with members of the South Dakota Synod and other Companions.

The South Dakota Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), offers this position to an individual who is committed to serve as a global mission volunteer with the ILFE for a term of two years. The SD Synod, ELCA and the ILFE have been mutually accompanying one other through their Companion Synod Relationship for the last 15 years.

Experience and Skills:

  • BA/BS Required
  • Proficiency in English with at least 61 TOEFL score
  • Proficiency in written and oral Spanish
  • Ability to understand and communicate the laws of Nicaragua regarding cooperation with citizens of other countries
  • Familiarity with the mission, ministry and outreach of the ILFE
  • Previous experience working within church ministry (children, youth, family) is preferred

Terms and Conditions

This position is a Shared Personnel Placement with ELCA Global Mission and the South Dakota Synod. Training, visa requirements, and volunteer's health insurance are provided by ELCA Global Mission. Travel expenses to and from area of service and a stipend to cover in-country expenses are covered by SD Synod, ELCA.
